High School Work Based Learning

High school work based learning is a paid internship position, for students currently enrolled in high school who are 17 years or older and are interested in pursuing a career in the construction industry. 

Students selected for an internship position will go to school for part of the day, and work for C.W. Matthews the other part of day getting valuable exposure to the heavy highway construction trade.  

Work Based Learning is a class that students must sign up for at their high school.  In this program you not only receive good pay, a glimpse of what a career in construction is like, but also elective school credit.

Students that are selected MUST have:

  • A driver’s license
  • A dependable vehicle to get them to the job site every day.
  • A desire for a career in the construction industry.
  • A strong work ethic and a GREAT attitude.
  • A teacher recommendation (preferably from construction/trades/CTAE teacher)
