The I-16 Frontage Road Project, US 280 Widening Project, and Old Cuyler Road Interchange Improvements are three initiatives currently overseen by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in Bryan County, Georgia, situated just outside of Savannah. These projects collectively aim to reinforce the infrastructure around the Bryan County Mega-Site, which is poised to host both a Hyundai electric vehicle assembly plant and an adjacent EV battery factory, promising to generate 8,000 employment opportunities for the region.
C.W. Matthews is presently contracted for two of the three projects: the I-16 Frontage Road Project, priced at $29.7 million, and the US 280 Widening Project, priced at $83 million. The I-16 Frontage Road Project entails the construction of a new access road alongside I-16, enhancing connectivity for the Mega-Site with the surrounding road network. Simultaneously, the US 280 Widening Project focuses on expanding the roadway and incorporating five roundabouts along US 280, a strategic move to improve traffic flow and safety in the area. Given the ongoing development of the mega-site, a significant increase in regional traffic is anticipated, underscoring the critical role these projects will play in alleviating impending congestion.
To ensure the effective execution of these projects, C.W. Matthews has formed a joint venture with McLendon Enterprises. McLendon Enterprises, an established presence in Southeast Georgia since 1979, brings invaluable local expertise to the partnership, while C.W. Matthews contributes its Design Build knowledge. Both C.W. Matthews and McLendon will actively participate in the construction of these projects, creating an opportunity for C.W. Matthews to engage in an area of Georgia that is newer to us. This collaborative approach underscores a shared commitment to advancing infrastructure and fostering economic growth in Bryan County, Georgia.
These projects hold substantial promise for the local community and economy, and we are enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to the economic development of this community.
