Grading for public infrastructure is serious business. As Georgia’s leading roadway contractor, we take it very seriously. Our project teams preplan extensively to manage the challenges that come with complex roadway projects—like ensuring public safety, minimizing the impact on traffic, and the sheer manpower needed to turn raw earth into roads that will serve the public for decades to come.
C.W. Matthews is the contractor of choice for many of Georgia’s largest highway projects, including the I-85 Widening, the I-16/I-75 Interchange, as well as many local infrastructure improvements including widenings, roundabouts, and intersections. Our decades of experience has deepened our understanding of roadway construction processes, from bid to completion. Over time, we’ve refined our abilities to coordinate traffic control, grade work, utilities, and related activities. This leads to safer, more efficient operations during construction, and the highest-quality product for the people of Georgia.
In 2022, we expanded into the water and sewer market by adding our very own Utilities Division dedicated to efficiently self-performing these tasks. A crucial step in road widening involves relocating underground utilities, setting up new water and sewer mains for projects of all sizes — road or residential. The decision to bring these services in-house empowered us to increase efficiency and we’re proud to bring this service to the greater Atlanta area and beyond.
Our capabilities just got even greater. We’ve leveled up our site work and heavy highway operations with the acquisition of Baker Constructors, Inc. Completing roadways to landfill projects that span from Virginia to Florida, this addition to the C.W. Matthews family will allow us to expand the scope and quality of our work, while adding like-minded employees to our people-first culture.
Learn MoreOur grading division is trained and equipped to self-perform all aspects of roadway construction. As the primary managing division on roadway projects, we’re the first on the job and typically the last to leave once it’s completed, serving as the primary interface between owners, utilities, and stakeholders. Our ability to self-perform the majority of work helps us coordinate the phases of construction and streamline our processes to complete work efficiently, without unnecessary delays.
While our roadways keep everything moving above ground, our underground utilities keep everything moving below. C.W. Matthews provides critical installation, repair, and replacement of all underground utilities, including storm water systems, water lines, sewer lines, project site runoff and drainage systems, and more. Our commitment to providing high-quality, on-time and on-budget work makes us the leading utilities services construction provider in the area for commercial, industrial, municipal, and large-scale residential developments.
