A Legacy You Can Trust

A Legacy You Can Trust

What You Built Deserves to Be Protected

Every company we’ve acquired and partnered with was built by someone who cared — about the work, about the community, and most of all, about the people who showed up every day to get it done. We understand that, because we’ve built our company the same way. Since 1946, our mission has been getting the Southeast home and the roads that do that were built by companies just like yours.

When C.W. Matthews acquires and partners with a business, we keep local leadership in place, protect the crews that built the company, and honor the culture the founder spent years creating. Your legacy doesn’t end at the closing table, it continues with the resources, opportunities, and support of a company that’s been doing this the right way since 1946.

This isn’t just a transaction. It’s a transition and part of your business’s legacy, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Why Owners Choose Us.

What Makes C.W. Matthews Different?

There’s no shortage of acquirers out there. Here’s why the companies that know the Southeast choose C.W. Matthews.

For 80 years, C.W. Matthews has been private, family-owned, and committed to building the Southeast the right way — because this isn’t just where we work, it’s where we live.
Whatever your succession plan looks like, we’ll structure a deal around it and because the decision makers are in the room from day one, you’ll spend less time in limbo and more time moving forward.
When we acquire and partner with a company, we reinvest immediately — modern fleet, top-tier OEM relationships, and no aging equipment passed down.
An acquisition with C.W. Matthews means instant access to capabilities, long-standing DOT relationships, and resources that take most companies decades to build.
Your crew doesn’t just keep their jobs — they gain access to bigger projects, leadership development, and a clear path from where they are to where they want to be.
From the way our executive leadership team shows up to our Thanks-A-Million bonus program, boot stipends, retirement plans, and beyond, our people feel the difference from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of companies does C.W. Matthews typically partner with?
We acquire and work with civil infrastructure companies across the Southeast: asphalt, paving, grading, pipe, and bridge construction. Size and structure can vary, but our strongest fit is with family-owned businesses where the owner is thinking about the next chapter and wants to make sure their people are taken care of.
Will my employees keep their jobs and will my leadership team stay in place?
That’s always our intention. We believe the people who built your company are a big part of what makes it worth partnering with. Keeping leadership in place and protecting your crew isn’t just something we say, it’s how we’ve operated at every company we’ve partnered with.
Will my company name and local presence survive?
In most cases, yes. We don’t acquire companies to erase them, we partner with them to help them grow. The specifics depend on the deal, but preserving what you’ve built is always part of the conversation.
What deal structures does C.W. Matthews offer, and can I stay involved after the sale?
We’re flexible by design. Options include full business acquisitions, asset-only purchases, and carve-outs where you retain a portion of the business. If you want to stay involved after the transition, we can structure around that too, it’s your call.
Is my initial conversation with C.W. Matthews confidential?
Completely. Every conversation we have with prospective partners is treated with full confidentiality from the start. You’re not committing to anything by reaching out, you’re just starting a conversation.
What does the process look like and how long does it take?
We walk through the full process above, but the short version is: get to know us, first conversation, mutual fit review, letter of intent, due diligence, close, and integration. Timelines vary depending on deal complexity, but because we’re private and family-owned, we move faster than most.
