Project Details

This $114.7 million dollar project starts at Hamilton Mill and extends to ½ a mile past State Route 53. The project started in December 2017. Hamilton Mill to State Route 211 was scheduled to open December 11, 2019 but actually opened early on October 25, 2019. The remainder of the job is on track to meet or exceed the July 19, 2020 finish date. It covers a distance of 10.3 miles and will help alleviate traffic for the 250,000 vehicles that pass through this area each day.

The project added a third general purpose travel lane northbound and southbound. The additional lanes were added on the inside, in the existing wide median. Four new bridges, 11,800 LF of drainage piping, 8 sound barriers totaling over 478,000 sf, 4 MSE retaining walls and concrete barrier walls were also added as part of the project. CCTV cameras, vehicle detection and monitoring devices, and ramp meters were added to enhance the Department of Transportation’s traffic management system. The existing road will also receive milling and overlay for the entire length of the job, making the total 421,000 tons of asphalt.
